Tu Gallery of Edmonton, Alberta is pleased to announce an exhibition of the work of Ralph Reichenbach, one of this country’s preeminent designer/makers of finely crafted furniture and one-of-a-kind objects in wood.
Running from September 13 to October 11, visitors will be able to view a wide variety of superbly executed works in wood.
The general public will have an opportunity to meet the artist at the opening reception to be held on September 13, 2008 from 12:00 to 4:00pm.
Ralph is an Edmonton born artist who specializes in the use of wood veneers & combines them with solid woods to create aesthetically pleasing ornamental and functional objects. Ralph’s fine furniture pieces, which include tables, chairs, cabinets, desks, & many other pieces are often accented with images and inlays of veneers to create distinctly original works of art.
Marquetry is the art of cutting and fitting together numerous small pieces of veneer to form a design or picture. These pieces are then assembled together like a jigsaw puzzle and glued to a heavier supporting piece. He employs the age-old craft of marquetry to create pictures that are inspired by his values and experiences in life.
Fine workmanship and attention to detail are Ralph’s strengths but he also has a keen intuition, sensitivity to the materials & a great passion for woodworking. Ralph’s natural talent is clearly evident in his work.
Tu Gallery is a relatively new and dynamic venue specializing in handcrafted wood furniture, innovative picture framing, hand blown glass, metal art and expressive photography. Opened in 2005, the owners, Lorna and Alex Paterson, have taken a significant role in supporting the community of Canada’s studio furniture makers.
