MAGGIE WALT knows that fashion is, well, a bit frivolous. And with half of the world’s population living on less than $2 a day, she feels her work as a designer must fulfill a larger purpose. As a result, her company Maggie Walt Design gives to a number of charities – most notably I-India, which supports street children in Jaipur.
Two years ago, Maggie met Katrina Barker who was involved with I-India, a group that set up orphanages, providing basic health care and schooling in Jaipur India. Katrina started teaching the children to make jewellery – rescuing girls from the streets and a life of prostitution and teaching them a career. Maggie Walt Designs on 112 Street and Jasper Avenue sells this Ladli jewellery in her shop, and every cent goes towards supporting I-India’s vocational skills program. In addition, Maggie holds a number of charity events for I-India throughout the year.
We invite you to play a part in the next fundraiser for I-India by donating to the silent auction being held as part of the next Maggie Walt Design Performance Series – “Split Open” being held on Thursday, July 10th. All the money from ticket sales and the silent auction and donations will be sent to help support I-India do their important work with these young girls. You will be recognized as a donor verbally during the event & in our program.
This fundraiser will feature the premier of “Split Open” a modern dance performance by Tracy Friesen & Raena Waddel and will be followed by a silent auction, live music, strolling models and refreshments.
Consider supporting us in this worthwhile endeavor. Donate an item for the silent auction, buy tickets for yourself, your staff or customers or make a cash donation. Any contribution will be welcomed.
